2024 update

This email was sent by GSLMA President David Whitney regarding 2024 flying at Buder Park...

Greetings Buder Park Flyers.

The question has been asked about 2024 flying until the County process is up and running;

Answer from President Fred Cronenwett is:

"The county wont have the permit process up and running until feb or march 2024. We asked a very direct question regarding jan 1. The county's answer was to continue using the flying site and they post signage at the site when they are ready."

Personally, I would suggest you carry your current AMA and FAA cards with you when flying.

As more information becomes available I will let you now.

Thanks,

David Whitney

GSLMA Positions

This e-mail was sent out by GLSMA President

-----

Dear flyers,

As you are hopefully aware, our lease agreement to use the land at Buder Park for model aviation is set to expire at the end of this year. While the Parks Department could draw considerable income from other uses of this area (soccer fields being the obvious), they have chosen to renew our lease for another 5 year period. The letter confirming this can be seen on our website, www.gslma.com.

The renewal of this agreement is important as it will allow us to make the improvements our group has been planning on and saving money for. Many have asked what their $30 each year goes to. The improvements planned for 2017 include resurfacing the large control line square, sealing all other asphalt surfaces, and putting a new roof on the RC pavilion. A longer term improvement being looked into would be bringing electric to the RC area.

This brings me to the point of this email. None of these things mentioned above get done without the volunteer help from GSLMA. We currently have 2 positions vacant on the GSLMA Board including Historian and as of the end of the year Treasurer. We sent out notice about elections being held at the December meeting and NO ONE SHOWED UP to run for these vacant positions. Unfortunately, many flyers are quick to complain about GSLMA and what goes on at Buder Park but rarely does anyone new step up to help. The same 15 to 20 people have been doing all the work for the past 5+ years to ensure that we keep this world class flying facility.

We cannot continue to ask the same people to do all the work. At this point I will be taking on the responsibilities of Treasurer until one is found. I can assure you that my time is limited and this will not go on for more than a brief period until one is found. Lance Thompson stayed on as Treasurer a full year beyond the time when he was ready to retire the position and I will not do the same. The other board members also will not be able to take on another role either.

If you want the current board members to continue their service, I would suggest that you either come forward to volunteer or help convince your fellow flyers to step up.

I can assure you that without the help from GSLMA, this flying site will be put in jeopardy of continuing.

Please email me personally at _____ to indicate you are interested in running for these positions.

Thanks,

Tony Vitiello
GSLMA Chairman

Permits 2016 YTD: 183

Old Business:

FPV sign up – (4) total. Tony V. got a call from Tom O. about a complaint on the signs. Wanted to

know if RC was expanding RC area. Tom O. explained that it is part of the flying area. Flyers have the

first right to area usage.

Remove “no RC car sign” from control line area? Consensus is to leave sign up and as is. Discuss at a

later date and revisit topic.

Safety fence in the control line are is still broken. Tony V. will ask about the repair at meeting.

Tom O. noticed boundary posts may be missing. Tony V. will be checking into.

New Business:

Look at opening an RC car track at Buder. Tony will talk with SLCPD and the Dirt Burners to see what

they think.

Buder Air Show. Use charity, different charity, or no charity. Charity seemed to complicate things.

Supporting charity did not provide any additional coverage or spectators. Only benefit was

additional parking income.

Meeting closed 8:15pm

Motion, second, and passed.

Buder Park Permits:

Permits 2016 03/01/2016 to 03/31/2016: 37

Permits 2016 YTD: 143

Old Business:

Park meeting has not been scheduled at this time. Tony will let everyone know when the meeting

will be held. Meeting to discuss Buder improvements. Will also discuss lease extension.

Field reservations for Buder Air Show - price increase from last year for field rental approx. $2000.00

- $2300.00 ($150.00 event fee per day). Discussed in great detail the pros and cons of renting field.

Motion on floor to rent soccer fields for both days by Jon E. for Buder Air Show, second, passed, one

opposed. Mention to delay until Buder Flyers have ability to vote.

FPV area – need signs to keep park goers from coming into FPV area when utilized. Tony V. will talk

with SLCPD about getting signs made and consult Phil B. on verbiage.

CL speed circle is now cleaned by John Moll with approval from SLCPD. John M. will report

volunteer hours on flood clean up. Water Quik was hired to pressure wash speed circle by John M.

Cleanup needed for upcoming contest. Took 4000 gallons of water to clean speed circle. Cost

$254.50. Motion to reimburse Lafayette Escadrille, second, all in favor, none opposed. John M. will

document the clean up before and after. He will also document the speed contest.

New Business:

Tony V. has been talking with Buder Flyers about GSLMA permit fee and having a voice. Most flyers

understand fee and what it is used for. Questions about what GSLMA is and what it does. Discuss

having Buder Flyers have a voice. This will require bylaw change in order to make this change.

Previous proposal to have Buder Flyers form an AMA Charter club and become GSLMA member and

utilize current bylaw in place. Concern with having new voting model stack votes to impose illogical

polices. No real down side to the current system, but no real down side to allowing all permit

holders to vote. Form a committee to look at getting bylaw change, individual voting rights, and

electronic voting.

Meeting closed 8:56pm
